Hi guys, its nice having you to miyself for a while My three angels are having territory wars, after getting along fine. The biggest is male, and the smallest female. The middle sized one is not as easy to sex, if it is an ovopositor it is a bit lopsided, and if it isn't.... its a bit blunt!?!?!? Anyway s/he is really being picked on, and scales are a bit ruffed up. How long does this last? will they sort it out eventually? will the tail fin grow back after the nipping? The female hides a bit too, but doesn't look pysically harmed. thanks, anna

This is normal for angelfish of this size. You want to watch the one that is getting beat up very closy to make sure it won't be killed. They should settlle down within a week or so. Some fighting will occur after this espcieally if they pair up wihich I think they will. Are there hiding places in the tank and it is a 55 gallon right.

Yes, 55gal, and there are lots of plants for hiding, and a rock cave, but because the bigger AND smaller angel are doing the bullying they just follow him/her anywhere. This morning it was lots worse, but I think this evening it wasn't quite as bad. How will I know if it is nearing death??? Thanks, Anna

Angelfish are territorial. Through this kind of fighting, dominance and boundaries are being set. It is normal behaviour. However, you don't want the fish to get any worse. Being bullied will make it weaker and more susceptible to disease. Because you do not have a separate tank to put it in, the best thing to do would be to separate the fish by using a divider. This will keep the attackers away. I wish you good luck and make sure you keep your angels, particularily the one that is getting beaten, well fed as it will keep it stronger. I''ll update if I can think of anything else.

Thankyou Allen, I will see what I can devise, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse, and they let him feed ok today, just the occasional chase. Then again, I couldn't watch for as long as I would have liked! Let me know if there are any other methods... do they like soothing music? ;D anna
